How it all started in Kuopio in 2008
In May 2008, a Kuopio-based Irish dancer Tina Voronova has started to ask around, if any of her friends would be interested to learn and practice together Beginners-level Irish solo and group dances, also known as ceilís. The call has spread, and we started with a group of 5 people on May 19th. Multicultural Center Kompassi has assisted with arrangements of the project Kipeät Jalat, and our first class was held in the "diskohuone" disco room of Kulttuuriareena 44, back then known as Nuorisokeskus 44.
Over the years, the project has grown, and at times the tiny "diskohuone" had to fit up to 20 dancers! The project has always been free of charge, because the main purpose of it was to spend a good time together and have a contact to Irish culture, through Irish dance and music.

How our crew moved from Kuopio to Helsinki
Starting from 2013, more and more "old" dancers from Kipeät Jalat have been, in their own unique ways, ending up living in Helsinki area. After Tina's moving to Helsinki in late 2013, we have realised that there are more quite a few of us living in the area. This awareness has ignited a strong will to revive the spirit of Kipeät Jalat in Helsinki. By Christmas 2013, we had found a space to practice - the ballet room of Luuppi Youth Center. Big thanks to the Youth Centre for allowing us to come!
